anything that you can possibly think of. Then, there's the surface
itself that can take hot items, like pots and pans and most importantly
it's stain resistant and durable.

Limestone is for the more primitive sandy colored kitchen because the
limestone is the same way. Limestone captures fossilized plant and
animal life.
Limestone comes in a variety of colors but the two common colors are
white or cream-colored, but certain minerals tend to make the colors
change.

Soapstone, typically gray in color, it's highly resistant to heat and
its made up of very dense (non-porous) material (great for countertops),
even more so than marble, slate, limestone or granite. Soapstone is
especially good for bathrooms that way the walls won't stain of grow
fungus through time, liquids simply can't penetrate it. Very little
maintenance is required, too. All that's needed is an occasional coat of
mineral oil.

Marble comes in a variety of colors, running from almost pure white to
pale pinks and blues and or dramatic blacks and browns. It is
susceptible to stains more than most countertops but a penetrating
silicone sealer well maintained keeps it in good state.
